Taxonomy

Family: Asteraceae

 

Synonymous with Solidago graminifolia.

Habitat

Moist to dry prairies. More frequent in degraded habitats.

Ambrosia artemisiifolia elatior, Apocynum sibiricum, Boltonia latisquama recognita, Helenium autumnale, Helianthus grosseserratus, Ludwigia polycarpa, Panicum virgatum, Prunus serotina, Rubus occidentalis, Silphium terebinthinaceum, Stachys tenuifolia hispida, Teucrium canadense, Typha latifolia.

 Distribution

Newfoundland and Quebec west to British Columbia, south to NC, MO, and NM.

Morphology

Herbaceous perennial to about 1.5 m. Leaves linear and similar, sessile, much longer than wide, 3-veined, dotted with glands. Stems glabrous. Flowers yellow; heads in flat-topped, corymbiform inflorescences.

Wetland indicator: FAC

The genus Euthamia segregates some of the flat-topped goldenrods from Solidago. The typical variety, pictured here, is mostly glabrous. Plants that are evidently spreading-hirtellous have been called var. nutallii (Green) Fern.
