Taxonomy

Family: Caprifoliaceae

 

Synonymous with L. caerulea L.

Habitat

Swamps, wet woods, fens.

Associates

 

Distribution

Central and eastern Canada south through New England to PA, west through OH, MI, WI, and MN; circumboreal.

Morphology

Upright deciduous shrub to 1 m; variably pubescent; leaves to 8 cm long, widest above the middle, rounded at tip, underside hairy; flowers axillary, yellow to red; fruit blue.

Easily propagated by stem cuttings taken in the spring and rooted in water.
